10. Hellboy (2004)
From critically adored director Guillermo Del Toro, Hellboy centres around a demon-spawn boy who grows up to be a middle-aged man with a adolescents temper, who also happens to wield a giant hand cannon in one hand and a magical fist of stone in place of the other.
This comic book adaptation follows the fight against Rasputin, and of course, Nazis. Filled with colourful and evocative characters and locations, and lightheartedly transitioning between excellent set pieces, Hellboy is another shining gem on Del Toro's crown.
Ron Perlman is totally convincing as the badass, but well-meaning hero, who is battling his inner demons, no pun intended. You've really got to feel for Perlman though, sitting through interminable hours of makeup for the role.
As much as the dedicated fans wish there was a third, and there have been attempts by Perlman himself to get the project green-lit, we won't be seeing a Hellboy 3. Fans of the horned demon will be happy to learn that we're getting a reboot of the character, directed by Neil Marshall (The Descent), starring David Harbour of Stranger Things fame, arriving on our screen January 11, 2019.
