Alongside the Wicker Man, An American Werewolf in London, and The Descent, 28 Days Later is one of the greatest British horror films ever produced. Before this Danny Boyle directed masterpiece, the zombie as a monster was a brain-dead, brain-hungry part of a horde that slowly overwhelming survivors.

With this iteration of the zombie, the classic horror monster was reinvigorated and dragged from B-movie hell, thrown back into the limelight.

What makes this version of the zombie so bone-chilling is the ferocity they imbue, with Boyle casting retired athletes in the roles of the undead, so the audiences could sense their relentless power. It's one of those clever tricks that filmmakers conjure up which utterly change a type of film.

The picture evokes complete and utter dread, and cleverly investigates human interaction following such a devastating apocalyptic event. The changes to how the person can become infected make for some outstanding transformation scenes, with blood playing a significant role.

I watch, then I write. It could gory horror movies or confusing yet loveable cult hits like Donnie Darko. So have a look at what I write, or don't. It's fine, I don't mind.
