Zombie films are a great tool to provide social commentary, and this is no different, critiquing South Korean institutes, the government, and social responsibility. However, for those of you who simply love watching the undead run rampant, this is an intelligent zombie film, taking place in a close-quarters environment, playing into some very specific fears.

After an infected girl jumps onto a high-speed train to Busan, the virus spreads and overtakes the train. It places the complicated protagonist Seok-Woo and his daughter, with a group of accomplices in their fight to survive the oncoming infestation.

The zombies themselves are similar to those of World War Z, they are fast and overpowering in huge numbers, yet they have a clicker style to them, responded through sound and vision, becoming husk-like without victims to hunt.

When it arrived on screens, after a short production, it became one of the highest grossing and popular features of Korean cinema. There have been talks involving a variety of Hollywood studies, pursuing a remake of the film. Hopefully this doesn't happen... for now at least.

I watch, then I write. It could gory horror movies or confusing yet loveable cult hits like Donnie Darko. So have a look at what I write, or don't. It's fine, I don't mind.
