8. From Dusk Till Dawn (1996)
Vampire films are quite often not that scary, they tend to hedge towards romanticism and the Gothic. Quentin Tarantino and Robert Rodriguez brought a dirty and vulgar approach, delving into exploitation territory. For those who loved the poetic Bram Stoker's Dracula, this definitely isn't a vampire film you will be interested in.
Following two criminal brothers who abduct a former pastor and his children, they arrive at a strip bar aptly named... The Titty Twister, and mayhem ensues. It begins as a moody crime thriller and slowly turns into a camp horror flick. It's filled with Tarantino's signature dialogue, with characters conversing and debating in maddening ways, for example an argument over the distinction of a psychopath and a vampire.
It's an energetic, nonsensical, and low-budget riot, that mixes martial arts and body horror into one picture. A fantastic array of weapons are thrown into the mix, a jack hammer with a stake shoved on the end, holy water, and a crossbow. It all culminates in body destruction, pieced together with immense special effects, rolling in the odd visual cliche ripped from earlier horror movies.
