11 Actors Who (Hopefully) Killed Their Careers In 2014

11. Adam Sandler

Adam Sandler has been routinely criticised for frequently squandering his talents as a comic and as a dramatic actor, and 2014 wasn't really much different. His year began with romantic comedy Blended, which scored a grim 14% on Rotten Tomatoes, even if it's far from the worst of Sandler's efforts over the years. It did, to Sandler's credit, rack up $126.8 million worldwide, which is more than triple its budget, but was basically just another lazy excuse for the actor to take a fancy exotic holiday with some of his buddies. Things seemed to be looking up when he starred in Jason Reitman's technological drama Men, Women & Children, but it was poorly reviewed (31%) and made a pitifully small $1.7 million, covering scarcely 10% of its budget, making it by far the lowest box office gross for any movie in which Sandler has ever starred. Sandler once again teamed with an esteemed director for The Cobbler, the latest effort from Thomas McCarthy (Win Win), which premiered at the Toronto International Film Festival to unexpectedly scathing reviews, earning it a distinguished 0% with critics. At present it's still without a release date for most territories, and is pretty much destined to get quietly dumped on VOD platforms next year. In addition, for the second year running, Sandler has topped Forbes' list of Hollywood's most overpaid actors. No matter, he's got guaranteed box office gravy with next year's blockbusters Pixels and Hotel Transylvania, but in terms of respect, he's left with practically nothing these days.
