11 Awesome 2015 Horror Movies To Watch This Halloween
7. Maggie
If undeniably uneven, Maggie is a hugely unexpected film for several reasons, most abundantly that it's got Arnold freaking Schwarzenegger in it. Indeed, this is a very atypical outing for the screen legend, a quiet, minimalist, slow-burn art-house film about Arnie struggling to come to terms with the zombification of his daughter (Abigail Breslin). The premise is played 100% straight and works well for the most part, save for the fact that it runs a little too long (even at just 95 minutes) and the pacing could be patched up in places. There's not much in the way of action or gore, so it's not a traditional horror flick (more a drama with horror trimmings, really), but seeing two individuals attempting to accept what lies ahead for them is utterly captivating. It's great to see Arnie tackling something so different, especially at his age, and he delivers a rock-solid performance that will hopefully encourage him to try new things as he becomes less-convincing in action roles. It's not the liveliest or most thrilling of horrors, but it's got grand emotional depth, and the Arnie curiosity factor alone gives it a major boost (especially considering that he rises to the occasion).
