The Film: Batman Unchained Its hard to say how Nicolas Cages scrapped superhero movie roles would have gone had they actually made it to screen. His Superman looked a hell of a lot better in the wake of The Death Of Superman Lives than it initially had, so who is to say that his take on the Scarecrow in Batman Unchained wouldnt have also been great? Cage has a habit of fluctuating wildly in his roles. He can be award-worthy and steal every scene (as he did in Kick-Ass) or he can sleepwalk through identikit roles (see almost anything else from the past 15 years). But hes never better than when hes playing grotesque, mentally unbalanced characters. That alone makes the idea of him playing Jonathan Crane (and his creepier alter-ego) a wonderfully intriguing lost opportunity, particularly after it was revealed that he would lead a fantasy prosecution of Batman by other villains including The Joker. That element obviously worked as it was later integrated (without the hallucinations) into The Dark Knight Rises, but you have to think Cages take would have been vastly more unhinged. Which of these villains do you most wish you could have seen? Share your thoughts below in the comments thread.
