The Film: Batman: Year One When Darren Aronofskys Year One went down the pan, Warner Bros remained keen on the original story and turned to Joss Whedon, who admitted in 2008 that his pitch had been under consideration. The pre-Marvel Whedon stated around the release of The Dark Knight that his Year One was similar in tone to the Nolans approach, but that his was a bit less epic and set more in Gotham City. So no Bat gap year then. Most intriguingly, Whedon also wanted to bring in an entirely new villain, like Hannibal Lecter who would have been Batmans criminal consultant in Akham Asylum. Imagine if it played out with a twist and the shady figure turned out to be Jack Nicholson's Joker all along. Thats so much of an intriguing idea, in fact, that it looks like thats how well first meet Jared Letos Joker in Suicide Squad.
