11 Best Recast Movie Roles Of All Time

10. Josh Brolin As Thanos

Lando Calrissian
Marvel Studios

Way back in 2012, when a purple-faced man turned to look at the camera and give audiences a smirk in Marvel's The Avengers, it left many a cinemagoer scratching their head.

Fast-forward to 2018, and that purple-faced titan has become the star of one of the most successful blockbusters of all time. Originally portrayed by Damion Poitier in said post-credit scene, Josh Brolin took over the role once Marvel got serious about building to the infinity gauntlet storyline. Brolin's first on-screen appearance as the character was in the first Guardians of the Galaxy, going on to also appear in the post-credit scene for Avengers: Age of Ultron, before finally having his proper introduction in this year's Avengers: Infinity War.

Infinity War put a LOT on Brolin's Thanos and it paid off big time. Thanos is essentially the central character of the film, with even the final shot of the film lingering on an intimate moment with him. And Brolin absolutely knocks it out of the park, delivering a performance rife with pathos and empathy, while also remaining an imposing and terrifying bad guy.
