11 Best Recast Movie Roles Of All Time

9. The Crew Of The Enterprise

Lando Calrissian
Paramount Pictures

The first time J.J. Abrams took the reigns of a reboot of a massively popular science fiction saga with the word 'star' in the title, it worked out surprisingly well. After years of misfires and declining relevance and popularity, Abrams reinvigorated the saga by taking it back to its roots, literally.

In doing so, iconic roles such as Captain Kirk and Mr. Spock, which had been completely defined by their original actors for decades, had to be recast. Miraculously, it worked. Chris Pine and Zachary Quinto were both able to fully embody the younger versions of their characters, without ever feeling like imitations of their famous deliveries.

The rest of the crew are no slouches either, with actors such as Zoe Saldana, Anton Yelchin, Karl Urban, and Simon Pegg all doing a wonderful job of breathing new life into their respective characters while also clearly honoring what had come before it. Their performances and Abrams' original film were so good that it (briefly) revitalized the franchise for a whole new generation.
