11 Big Name Actors Who Ruined Good Horror Movies
6. Keanu Reeves -- Bram Stoker's Dracula (1992)
There have been many adaptation of Bram Stoker's esteemed gothic novel to date, and there will surely be many more, but few of them possess such dramatic divergence in the acting talent involved as the Francis Ford Coppola joint Bram Stoker's Dracula.
This was a time when Keanu Reeves was still on the rise and had experienced few acting challenges that had taken him far outside of 'woah, dude' territory. Unfortunately, that didn't stop Coppola casting him as Jonathan Harker, the everyman and main romantic anchor of the piece. Stiff as a board and half as emotive, Reeves shuffled his way through the film with only the worst English accent ever committed to stage or screen to guide him. To his credit, all reports suggest that Reeves tried his best here, but lacking the kind of natural aptitude or rigorous training to make this sort of thing land, it was a failure on all fronts.
Every scene he's not in ripples with the talent and zeal of a legendary cast, in Gary Oldman (Dracula), Anthony Hopkins (Van Helsing) and Winona Ryder (Mina Harker), and the film has gone on to be loved by a dedicated fanbase, despite its flaws. But that doesn't mean it couldn't have been a whole lot better.
