Malekith: what a misfire. Even Christopher Eccleston, in all his sinister acting glory, couldn't elevate the character above what it was; a thinly-written alien who just wanted to turn off all the lights. Out of the wealth of Thor villains to choose from, was Malekith really the best option? After all the charm and charisma of Tom Hiddleston, an emotionless albino really didn't measure up. The poor choice of villain definitely let the film down for a lot of critics and fans, and looking back on it Marvel would be insane not to think to themselves that yeah, they could've come up with something better. If all Marvel wanted to do was set up the Aether, then sure, fine - a crappy villain doesn't really matter. But I don't think that was their motive - because what a waste of an entire Thor movie that would be. On the whole it was just a missed opportunity to have a memorable villain, and a waste of Christopher Eccleston. Just think what could have been!
