11 Comic Book Characters Who Shouldn't Have Had A Movie (And The Alternatives Who Should)

6. Jonah Hex

Jonah Hex is actually a pretty decent and engrossing character whose comics and adventures are fun and interesting to read - he just isn't widely known enough to warrant a movie. As an anti-hero, he's a rarity in comic books (he isn't, by any stretch, the only anti-hero out there, but that line between hero and villain is something that is rarely trodden in comparison to outright heroes and villains) and that makes him kind of unique - especially given that he's a cowboy. In the event that a movie was made, it needed to be a hell of a lot better than the one Legendary Pictures rolled out in 2010. The cast was top quality - stellar, in fact - with Josh Brolin in the lead role and the likes of Megan Fox, Michael Shannon, John Malkovich, Michael Fassbender and Will Arnett supporting, but the movie was downright garbage. Giving Hex a supernatural power in the movie was a stupid idea as well. It essentially made the movie as much of a wild west misfire as... well... Wild Wild West. And that's saying something. A budget of $47 million wasn't even close to being offset by an $11 million box office return and the general consensus amongst critics was that the movie was a waste of their time. Alternative movie that should have been made: Nightwing. This could have been used as a means of expanding the Nolanverse with a more well-known dark character. Batman Begins and the Dark Knight could have been used to hint at it and, by utilising the success of those films in the marketing, the turnover at the box office would have offset the budget in a manner that Jonah Hex could only dream of.
