11 Cult Musicals You NEED To See

With Andrew Lloyd Webber’s theatrical musical already having a substantial cult following of its own, it was inevitable that Tom Hooper’s star-studded film adaptation of Cats would attract similar cult attention – but perhaps not for the same reasons.

From the moment the internet caught its first glimpse of the freakish feline CGI creations that Judi Dench, Idris Elba, and Taylor Swift had been transformed into, we knew that watching this film would be an unforgettably bizarre experience. And this initial impression wasn't wrong.

The film was not only heavily panned in every regard by critics, it also lost Universal an estimated $114 million at the Box Office. But there was a silver lining to watching cat Rebel Wilson eat child-faced mice, and that was getting to watch something as insane as that unfold onscreen.

Already attracting audiences to special screenings in which they partake in several games and callouts while they watch, Cats has quickly found itself in the circle of so-bad-they’re-good films. Sitting alongside the terrifically terrible likes of The Room and Troll 2, cult fans will never get tired of how unfathomably catastrophic this unintentionally nightmarish CGI musical is.
