If you’re looking for a hidden gem to cheer you up when you’re feeling depressed, look no further than Neil Triffett’s Emo The Musical.

Triffett’s feature-length adaptation of his acclaimed short film of the same name, this off-beat high school musical tells the Romeo And Juliet-style romance between angst-ridden emo Ethan (Benson Jack Anthony) and devoutly religious Trinity (Jordan Hare).

To the dismay of their opposing friendship groups, the pair strike up a relationship as tensions begin to grow between the cliques as the school approaches the highly anticipated Battle Of The Bands competition.

Loaded with plenty of clever tongue-and-cheek humour, this Aussie film is a devilishly funny delight full of charm and heart. And the music itself is a large part of the fun, too. From the upbeat rock tracks “We’re All Going To Die” and “Stupid Band” to the playfully mean-spirited “Give Up” and “Come To Church With Me”, this film has a lot of fun in how it contrasts the two groups musically and will leave you with a huge smile on your face by the time the credits roll.

This film knows exactly what it is and has the most fun it can possibly have with its premise.
