11 Deaths In Kids' Movies That Made You Want To Cry Like A Little Girl
3. Anty - Honey, I Shrunk The Kids
Honey, I Shrunk the Kids is a story of an irresponsible scientist who leaves a shrinking machine (which he thinks obliterates things) unattended in his unlocked attic, despite having two children. It's not even slightly surprising that the children then end up shrinking themselves and the neighbourhood kids. Our irresponsible scientist then sweeps them up and throws them out with the rubbish, and so our adventure begins. Turns out that the lawn can be a pretty perilous place when youre less than an inch tall, as droplets of water become floods, and insects are giant terrifying beasts of horror. Having had a distressing experience being nabbed by a bee, the kids already know that your average garden-dweller is going to be fairly threatening. When they come across a dropped cookie and start eating it (I guess the 5-second rule doesn't count when you're minuscule), they discover they have company, in the form of a massive ant. With it's massive clicky jaws, the ant does look extremely frightening (especially with the 1980's effects) so it's only natural that the kids tried to run. Thankfully for them though, Anty is one of the good guys. They initially begin using Anty as a form of transport to speed up their mission across the lawn, but then decide that taking him too far from home would be cruel. They get off his back and tell him to go, but by this time Anty has developed a bond with the kids, particularly Ron, and so follows them on their journey (which is pretty lucky to be honest). The kids sleep in a lego brick, but the next day are attacked by a massive scorpion (US readers: do you really have scorpions in your back garden? Because if so, OMG). Anty jumps in and saves the day rescuing Ron, but tragically giving his own life so that they may live. The scorpion stings him, and he is poisoned to death whilst the kids look on. They try and get him to fight the poison, but it's too much, and slowly but surely Anty dies. For such a wacky film, this disturbing and depressing scene is a sure-fire tear-jerker.
