11 Deaths In Kids' Movies That Made You Want To Cry Like A Little Girl

2. Littlefoot's Mother - The Land Before Time

So you know how a Barracuda€™s got to eat € so does a Tyrannosaurus Rex. Except that T-Rex went after the best mother ever portrayed on film (possibly an exaggeration), and ended up not even eating her. Littlefoot€™s mother is universally wise and kind. She wants to promote a happier and richer world for her only son, and is accepting of other species in a world that promotes species segregation (in a not-too-subtle nod to racism). Littlefoot is has several friendships with dinosaurs of other species, much to many of his clan's disgust. Yet Littlefoot's mother is supportive and encouraging, and allows them to come on their journey to the legendary Great Valley. Littlefoot's mother, and the rest of the Longnecks, have lived for a long time in dwindling conditions, where sustenance has become scarce. The film starts with Littlefoot€™s mother undertaking the mission with the Longnecks to get to the Great Valley, where there is rumoured to be plentiful food and water. Naturally any journey comes with peril, and an encounter with a T-Rex is about as perilous as you can get. When Littlefoot and one of his friends is attacked by a T-Rex, Littlefoot€™s mother intervenes and helps Littlefoot escape. Whilst she continues to battle, an earthquake comes and thankfully swallows the T-Rex, but this is small respite. Littlefoot€™s mother received severe injuries from the attack, and then has to explain her own inevitable demise to her son. She tells him that she is unable to get up but that she will always be with him, even if he can€™t see her. Not understanding, he tells her that he can always see her (she is very tall in fairness). She tell him that he must always listen to what his heart whispers, and then he realises that he will have to grow up without her. And then you have to bury your face in a cushion and weep.
