11 Deaths In Kids' Movies That Made You Want To Cry Like A Little Girl

8. Artax - The NeverEnding Story

The NeverEnding Story is a charming tale about a boy warrior called Atreyu, who has to stop the curse of Nothing to save the land of Fantastica. It€™s all a little far-fetched, but whatever, it€™s a German kid€™s fantasy film so we€™ll allow it. Atreyu and his lovely horse Artax head off to save the world, and it€™s all very nice until the unthinkable happens. Oh yes. You know it. Artax dies. Horses dying in films is definitely on a par to dogs dying. Anyone who€™s seen Black Beauty can tell you that the death of a horse is a deeply traumatic thing to watch, but this is no ordinary death. Oh no. Artax, our hero€™s best friend and confidant, dies of SADNESS. That€™s right. No baddy that we can avenge against and no disease that we can cure. Artax and Atreyu find themselves in the Swamp of Sadness, and Artax succumbs: he is so sad that he literally stands still whilst drowning in a swamp. What makes it worse is Atreyu telling him, €œYou have to try. You have to care... you€™re my friend. I love you€ whilst Artax blankly looks on, paralysed by the swamp. The NeverEnding Story is probably the most accurate depiction of depression in creation and, as a result, probably the bleakest.

Fan of Taylor Swift and the Dead Kennedys (a duet I can only dream of). I like dystopias, slasher films, and video games that make me feel things.
