11 Great F*ck You Performances From Hated Actors
5. Sylvester Stallone – Cop Land
After the string of forgettable action movies and couple of crappy comedies Sylvester Stallone did in the 80s and 90s, it’s difficult to remember the hype during his breakthrough role as Rocky back in 1976 when he was nominated for both a Best Actor and Best Original Screenplay Academy Award and hailed as the new Marlon Brando by the likes of film critic Roger Ebert.
So a return to a meatier role was long overdue by the time Stallone starred in James Mangold’s ensemble crime drama Cop Land in 1997.
Sporting an extra 40 pounds, Stallone swapped his usually honed physique for a middle-aged paunch in his role as partially deaf, washed up sheriff fighting big city cop corruption in small town New Jersey and wowed critics with his performance, more than holding his own in a stellar cast of ‘serious’ actors including Robert De Niro, Harvey Keitel and Ray Liotta.
