11 Hilariously Bad Death Scenes In Otherwise Awesome Movies
7. Romeo Montague (Leonardo DiCaprio) - Romeo + Juliet
The Scene: Believing Juliet (Claire Danes) to be dead, Romeo (DiCaprio) commits suicide by drinking poison. However, Juliet soon enough wakes up from her death-like slumber, giving the two a brief moment of shared horror before Romeo expires.
Why It's Hilariously Bad: Despite the scene being rather well done on the whole, it's basically sunk by Claire Danes' terrible attempt at cry-acting.
After processing Romeo's death for a moment, she lets out a bizarre cackle-cry that sounds more like laughter than someone in the throes of grief. Plus, as anyone who's seen Homeland knows, Danes has a difficult-to-take-seriously cry-face for the ages. There are literally even Tumblr blogs devoted to it.
And this is all without even mentioning the inherent comical irony of Romeo's ultimately pointless demise (which of course causes Juliet to blow her brains out moments later).
