Dani (Florence Pugh) is left traumatised when her sister commits suicide after killing their parents.

This puts added strain on her relationship with boyfriend, Christian (Jack Reynor). Christian was planning to split up with Dani prior to the tragedy, but now feels obliged to stay with her. Christian invites Dani on a trip to Sweden for a midsummer festival, a visit that will be part-recreational and part-academic - one of the group, Josh (William Jackson), is writing his thesis on the pagan festival.

When the group arrives - led by Pelle (Vilhelm Blomgren), who organised the trip to his ancestral home - the remote commune seems idyllic; the surroundings are beautiful, and the people live in harmony with nature.

The commune’s practices initially seem quaint and a little whimsical, but things quickly take a dark turn.

The preparations for the upcoming midsummer festival become increasingly sinister. The visitors begin to feel uneasy and voice their concerns. When they begin to disappear one-by-one, they realise there is something rotten behind the cult’s façade.
