11 Horror Sequels That Were Actually Better Than The Original

8. Blair Witch

This one will be a controversial pick, but there is a fair amount to be said for this late sequel to The Blair Witch Project. The original film has faced a lot of backlash over the years and while it definitely isn't as bad as some say it is, it does feel over-hyped and dull when viewed today. Blair Witch is arguably better because unlike the original film, it's actually entertaining.

Where the original had unlikable characters and was a little too sparse for its own good, Blair Witch has a far better group of protagonists and its story-line is far more diverse and less repetitive.

It's also far more consistent in terms of its scares and this time the scary moments aren't all confined to the film's ending. Most impressively of all, this actually shows the titular villain this time and this works really well. Showing the villain (whose absence worked so well in the original) was a huge gamble but it paid off.

All in all, this is an unusually good found-footage horror film and to be honest, given how widely disliked the original is these days, it's likely many will enjoy this one considerably more.
