11 Horror Sequels That Were Actually Better Than The Original
7. Annabelle: Creation
The first Annabelle, while not without its moments, was a mediocre horror film that wasted a great villain and was the kind of film you forget merely days after viewing. Therefore, no-one was looking forward to Annabelle: Creation, but to the pleasant surprise of everyone, Creation is a highly effective horror prequel.
Creation has a good cast, memorable characters and is absolutely loaded with dread and atmosphere, making this an edge-of-seat viewing experience from start to finish. It's also genuinely sad and has a lot of pathos, which is always the sign of a good horror film.
It isn't as good as the two Conjuring films and some of the film's jump scares don't really work, but all the atmosphere and tension more than compensate for that. It also boasts a very clever ending that links up the original film in an interesting manner.
The recent Annabelle Comes Home is also a good horror film, but this has a better story and therefore takes the spot as the third-best film in The Conjuring Universe. All in all, not an outstanding film, but a good horror flick and mercifully a hell of a lot better than The Nun.
