It's easy to look back at Christopher Nolan's Dark Knight saga and assume that all three movies were enormously profitable due to their insane popularity nowadays.

However, 2005's Batman Begins was actually a rather modest hit, pulling in "only" around 2.5x its $150 million budget, more than $200 million less than Logan's current box office cume.

Sure, it's not that fair to compare a Batman reboot, which many fans surely approached with some trepidation after Batman and Robin, to the long-awaited, relentlessly buzzed-about R-rated Wolverine movie, but it's still highly laudable that Logan's gritty vision managed to beat Nolan at his own game, and so decisively too.
