11 Marvel Movies That Almost Happened

3. Oliver Stone's Elektra: Assassin

Although Elektra has since appeared in 2003's Daredevil and her own titular spin-off movie in 2005, she could have appeared on the big-screen in a movie called Elektra: Assassin prior to that. Natural Born Killers, JFK and Nixon director Oliver Stone was linked to the movie as far back as 1992 and it would have been based on the Frank Miller/Bill Sienkiewicz mini-series of the same name. Stone wanted Gabrielle Reece - a professional volleyball player and fashion model turned actress - in the lead role. Although the movie would have had the same name as the aforementioned mini-series, that's where the similarities would have stopped. The movie would have seen the titular heroine going up against the legendary ninja clan The Hand as opposed to being hunted by S.H.I.E.L.D. like in the mini-series (as the rights to S.H.I.E.L.D. and Nick Fury were tied up elsewhere). Stone was keen on making the movie up until Elektra was sold, along with Daredevil and Bullseye, to Fox. Hence, it never happened.
