1. Sam (Trick 'R Treat)
Sam, or "Samhain" (the spirit of Halloween), is a fictional character who first appeared in Michael Dougherty's 1996 short film Season's Greetings before appearing in the excellent and acclaimed horror film Trick 'r Treat, which was based on the short film. He was played by child actor Quinn Lord in the film, initially appearing as a seemingly innocent masked trick-or-treater. However, Sam is revealed to be a demonic pumpkin-like creature who acts as the enforcer for the rules and traditions of Halloween. Trick 'r Treat follows several interlinking short stories, in which Sam is the common link. His role is to ensure that the characters adhere to Halloween tradition and, if they don't, he will kill them. For example, he kills a woman for taking down Halloween decorations too early and he attacks a miserly old man who ignores trick-or-treaters when they knock on his door. However, he leaves the man alone when he receives some candy from him. Essentially, if you're nice to Sam and play by his rules, he's actually quite cute! If you don't, he'll rip you face off.
