7. Jareth Transforms Into A Tiny Goblin & Throws A Tantrum At The End Of Labyrinth
Whenever anybody talks about Labyrinth, their first thoughts probably go to the fact that it stars pop sensation David Bowie as Jareth the Goblin King, or that bit at the beginning where Hoggle urinates in a pond (mostly the David Bowie thing). Originally the part of Jared was supposed to be played by Michael Jackson - which, given that the plot is about a man stealing a child proved itself to be a narrowly avoided disaster - but Bowie ending up stepping in and nailing it. There are a few weird undertones throughout the movie, of course, mainly in the sort of hinted at sexual tensions between Jareth and the protagonist, a fifteen-year-old-girl named Sarah. I don't know what's going on with that. At the end of the movie, Jareth proposes that Sarah be his queen in the titular Labyrinth, but she refuses, defeats him and gets transported home. Jareth looks shocked and becomes an owl. In the first draft, though, Jareth was supposed to transform into a tiny goblin man with his own features superimposed on the face of the creature, only to throw a bizarre little tantrum, shouting things like: "Why does everything happen to me!?"
