11 MORE Movies That Led To Other Movies Being Cancelled (And Why)
3. Suicide Squad And Studio Interference Kills Gotham City Sirens
The DCEU has quite a bit of history when it comes to announcing movies and then doing absolutely nothing with them, but the fact that the comic book franchise eventually got a female-driven spinoff with Birds of Prey made it abundantly clear that Suicide Squad was to blame for Gotham City Sirens remaining trapped in development hell.
Following the highly-publicized tales of behind the scenes woe, extensive reshoots and overall sense of disappointment that surrounded Suicide Squad, progress on Gotham City Sirens stagnated in almost record time, despite the movie originally set to be fast-tracked into production.
Ayer, who was also set to direct the spin-off, didn't hold back with how he felt his vision had been compromised on Suicide Squad, while Jared Leto's Joker was set to play a key supporting role before it turned out that people really didn't care much for his Juggalo-inspired Clown Prince of Crime.
Warner Bros. instead decided to reboot the Suicide Squad after one movie and move forward with Birds of Prey instead, seemingly writing Leto's Joker out of the franchise in the process. While Margot Robbie claimed that Gotham City Sirens was still a possibility, it looks more unlikely than ever given that The Fantabulous Emancipation of One Harley Quinn ended up becoming the lowest-grossing entry in the DCEU by a wide margin.
