11 Most Compelling Pieces Of Evidence That Batman Triumphant Would Have Been Great

1. The Scarecrow Actually Makes A Great Lead Villain

There's a fairly restrictive over-riding feeling that Batman cannot work without The Joker as his main antagonist, and that every other villain is simply filling in. Unfortunately for Schumacher, the way he handled his villains - not least in turning Two Face into a two-bit Joker rip-off and the ludicrous direction of the trio in Batman & Robin - pretty much established that mentality in the first place. But Schumacher knew something that even Christopher Nolan didn't have enough faith in: that a psychedelic toxin dealer with a nightmare complex and a penchant for dressing up and scaring birds can be a truly great lead villain.

He is compelling, multi-dimensional and opens the door to bringing in more horror elements - a fact proven impressively by Arkham Knight. No matter how you might feel about Nic Cage being Schumacher's pick for the role, seeing a Batman film that embraced the terrors of Crane's evil fully (and doesn't have him play second fiddle to Ra's Al-Ghul) still needs to happen. Because Batman and horror needs to be embraced by a brave film-maker sooner or later.
