3. Solo's Soundtrack Can't Win Awards... Because Someone Messed Up
The qualifying requirements for Oscar consideration are apparently a lot more complex than you might have thought and it's come at a cost this year. Unfortunately, the late, great Jóhann Jóhannsson's stunning Mandy score will not be considered because the film was released on VOD before it had completed its qualifying theatrical period. The composer died this year and that means one of the best scores of the entire year won't be in with a chance of justifiably winning an Oscar that Jóhannsson's work would also warrant.
Slightly more annoyingly for Disney, they won't have a chance of winning an Oscar for Solo's score because some messed up. Not because they didn't want it to be considered, but because someone literally just missed the deadline. Which must have been their one job.
Variety reports that John Powell and John Williams' score missed the November 15th cut off date and someone at LucasFilm is definitely in the bad books for it.
