8. Bumblebee Has The Weirdest Voice Possible

One of the biggest surprises of the entire year is just how well the new Transformers spin-off, Bumblebee, seems to be going down with those who have seen it. It's giving Laika director Travis Knight a major profile boost and it looks like we're finally getting a movie that matches how beloved the toys were.

There's still a slightly weird thing to reveal about it though, as one of the conspicuously missing jigsaw pieces from the main series has been found and inserted: Bumblebee's voice. The robot is usually mute, apart from using radio sounds to communicate, but with this being an origin story, Knight and the writers chose to allow him to talk.

Given the fact that he's a robot and that the other Transformers sound very-Transformery, the weird thing here is that The Mazerunner actor Dylan O'Brien has been chosen to lend his voice to Bee. They've gone for "youthful exuberance" rather than robot majesty, which has always been the way with Transformers so far and which is about the most unexpected way they could have gone.

It's a bold strategy, Cotton, let's see if it pays off.
