5. Rudolph Is Problematic?!

Not so long ago, Christmas took a dark turn when the Huffington Post accused classic animated short Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer of being sexist, bigoted and abusive. Not very festive.

The accusation inevitably picked up lots of interest - because that's what happens when you accuse anything so ingrained in culture as that film of anything so explosive - with some going as far as to say Rudolph should be cancelled.

Now one of the original actors, Corrine Conley, has bitten back pointing out - correctly, it has to be said - that Rudolph is a parable about not bullying, not being a bigot and not being closed-minded. You know, like the song and the legend of Rudolph has ALWAYS been. Losing your mind over the depictions of bullying in it now, when that is precisely the point of the morality tale is a little like complaining that the Ugly Duckling is all about ugly shaming.

This comes the same year "Baby It's Cold Outside" was banned by radio stations over fears over its content, which absolutely missed the entire point of that song being about the shaming of women expressing sexual desire. Congratulations on missing the point this Christmas, guys.
