11 Movie Franchises We Wish Weren’t Dead

10. Twilight

The Dark Knight Trilogy
Lionsgate

OK, so the series bombed HARD critically, but wherever you were when this insanely popular vampire saga concluded, you could no doubt hear the cries of teenage girls as they echoed around the globe.

I’m sure we can all agree that, as far as quality filmmaking goes, these movies were merely average. However, the series did a lot behind the scenes that makes it deserving of a comeback.

Twilight allowed us to believe in the idea of unconventional families. It deals with the notion of creating an alternative family outside of our birth and by the series’ end, what we have is a beautifully unusual family dynamic of humans, vampires and wolves. Film-goers don’t get that anywhere else, and if they did, they’d surely have Twilight to thank for it.

What the series also did was trigger a boom in young adult fiction, as well as invite an influx of female fans into the Comic Con fold. In booting down subcultural barriers, Twilight helped redefine fandom and another instalment would similarly help to foster that further.

Could There Be A Comeback?

There’s hope for you Twihards yet, as ripples of Stephanie Meyer’s Life and Death book transitioning to the silver screen have emerged.

The book, written to mark the tenth anniversary and with over 400 pages of brand new content, reimagines the original novel and sees a human boy fall in love with a female vampire.
