11 Movie Scenes Only Shot For The Trailer

8. Prometheus

Prometheus may have been heavily flawed, but it's hard to find fault with its marketing campaign. In the months leading up to Ridley Scott's Alien prequel, multiple videos were released virally to promote the film.

The most well-known of these clips centres around Weyland-Yutani CEO, a young Peter Weyland, performing a TED talk, where he discusses the advances of technology. (Unlike the movie, you can actually tell Weyland is played by Guy Pearce in this scene, since he's not caked in a distracting amount of makeup.)

Other scenes used for this campaign included an interview with a Weyland employee, a personal log by Elizabeth Shaw (Noomi Rapace), and two commercials advertising the David 8 android (Michael Fassbender).

These snippets gave us great insight into the characters' motivations and backstories, and the world they inhabit, despite showing no footage from the movie itself. Even though these clips are only a few minutes long, their masterful world-building brought us a deeper understanding of Alien's expanded universe.

The reception for these videos was so well-received, Ridley Scott pulled off a similar campaign for the follow-up, Alien: Covenant.
