11 Movie Sequels That Turned Badasses Into Total Wimps

3. Batman - Batman & Robin

Warner Bros.

When you consider Tim Burton's two Batman movies, Nolan's three and even Schumacher's Batman Forever in conjunction with the monumental crimes of Batman & Robin, it's like watching an entirely different franchise. Okay, so the cape and cowl are there - but even they were pushed through a lunatic redesign filter with superfluous silly frills, nipples and cod-pieces - but the performance of George Clooney beneath them was so fundamentally wrong for the character that neither Batman nor Bruce Wayne are successful.

For every other actor cast in the role, the duplicity of the character was as important as any charisma or mega-star looks, but Joel Schumacher seemed so enamoured with the physicality of his new leading man that he forgot to get any substance out of him, and rather unfortunately the character's entire ethos - of an avenging monster borne out of fear - was neglected entirely.

This charlatan caped crusader bears no resemblance to the Dark Knight of the comics, and there's just nothing left that makes him threatening. Or appealing.
