11 Movies That Should Really Have Sucked (But Somehow Didn't)

6. Slither (2006)

Slither When the movie studios got around to marketing James Gunn's tongue and cheek horror movie Slither, they decided to treat the movie as if it were a serious horror flick, free of all the ironies that actually make this movie great - as a result, it appeared to be a movie of a certain generic type: a parasite slowly takes over a small turn, brainwashing its victims - the kind of movie that David Cronenberg made back in the '70s with Shivers. So imagine how surprised audiences were when they sat down to this one, only to discover that - whilst crafting some genuinely chilling moments - Gunn (who also wrote the script) had crafted a hilarious horror comedy, one that would have surely fallen flat had it opted to go down the usual route. Slither is about as funny as horror comedies come these days - although it clings to a premise that just about anybody in the world ever could come up with in a matter of minutes, Gunn nails the tone. Little slug monsters brainwashing people has never been so much fun.
