The Wachowskis struck gold with 1999's The Matrix, and the sci-fi community waited with bated breath for the release of their 2015 space opera, Jupiter Ascending.

On its surface, Jupiter Ascending seems to be a cerebral, almost fairy-tale approach to sci-fi, and the concept alone is enough to spark the interest of anyone with a passing fancy in going on a two-hour long sci-fi adventure.

Add into the mix Channing Tatum and Mila Kunis in starring roles, and it seemed destined to follow in the Matrix's footsteps as another Wachowski masterpiece with a number of insightful observations on society.

Its narrative was dismissed by critics as completely incoherent, and it also received criticism for the writing and acting on offer, with a focus on the movie's hammy dialogue.

Jupiter Ascending has garnered a certain level of cult following, but not enough for the movie to be consider a success by any stretch of the imagination - least of all when you consider just how high the bar was set from the off.
