Director Frank Henenlotter didn’t make a lot of movies in his career, but the ones he did left an impression. Basket Case is considered a cult gem, both for its bizarre premise and dedication to black humour. The film eventually got two straight to video sequels, but the lead characters from the film made a surprise appearance in Henenlotter’s next effort Brain Damage.

This is another cult horror that follows a guy addicted to a drug produced by an alien parasite; in order to get more of the drug, he has to feed it victims. It’s a blackly grim horror comedy, and at one point the lead is riding the New York subway, and sits across from a weird looking guy carrying a basket.

Hardcore horror fans will recognise him as Duane from Basket Case, who’s carrying his deformed twin brother Belial around in the basket. It’s subtle stuff, but it’s a nice nod for those who understand it.

Handsome. Charismatic. Intelligent. Noble. Witty. I'm none of these things, but I'm a half decent writer, I guess.
