The High Republic commences in January 2021 and is being billed as the biggest publishing initiative of the Disney Star Wars era. Set a few hundred years before the events of The Phantom Menace, the series will focus on the Jedi when they were at their peak as the guardians of peace and justice, long before they lost their way by the time of the prequels.

It was rumoured for a while that The High Republic would spin off into related media, including film, TV and video games. Lucasfilm finally confirmed those suspicions on Thursday, announcing that Russian Doll co-creator Leslye Headland will be diving into the High Republic era with The Acolyte, a suspenseful, women-led series that will revolve around the emergence of the Dark Side during said era's dying days.

The Sith were all but extinct for a millennia by the time of Episode I. Could this series explain their return? It's a strong possibility.
