3. Total Recall 2: The Minority Report
It's A Sequel To... Total Recall (1990) When Paul Verhoven's brilliant sci-fi action movie masterpiece
Total Recall proved to be a smash at the box office, the studio thought that it would be a good idea to cash in on the success of the flick (which starred Arnie Schwarzenegger as a secret agent who goes on a dangerous mission to Mars) with a bonafide sequel. If you've ever sat down to watch
Total Recall, you'll know that mounting a follow-up to such an ambiguous story would likely prove difficult, given that most of the events that take place are (probably) the result of memory implants. That didn't stop them, of course, because a screenplay was written based around another Philip K. Dick story that you might be familiar with: "The Minority Report." In this sequelised version, Schwarzenegger would have reprised his role as Douglas Quaid, now a reformed police officer, who uses mutants to solve crimes before they happen. It's not a terrible idea, of course, but it doesn't fit at all with the plot points set up in the first movie. Spielberg lated adapted the script for his own movie, where the film was shot as a standalone with Tom Cruise.
