11 Perfect Times Actors Went Incredibly Dark

6. Jim Carrey - Cable Guy

Jim Carrey gets a lot of heat for not being a great actor sometimes, but he's very much in the same school as Adam Sandler, whereby he was a lot better than the material his fans seemed to lap up a lot of the time.

Over the years, he's shown flashes of being a truly gifted dramatic actor, capturing that special brand of pathos that only comics seem to manage when they transition into straighter roles. And in The Cable Guy, he's arguably on his most impressive form.

Okay, so it's not got the dramatic heft of something like Eternal Sunshine Of The Spotless Mind or The Truman Show, but his Chip has way more layers. He appears to be a harmless goof, but then his reality is peeled back and despite the comedy, we're painted a picture of a dangerous stalker shaped by years of neglect who is willing to do anything to get what he wants.

Don't let the pratfalls fool you, this is a deeply dark character who plays on your perverse sympathies for him who should have informed The Riddler way more.
