David Letterman was less than impressed with his portrayal in the highly successful television movie, "The Late Shift", released in 1996. The movie, which was based on a book of the same name, tells the story of the longtime rivalry between talk show hosts, David Letterman and Jay Leno.

For Letterman, it was not so much the plot that irked him but the actor (John Michael Higgins) who played him. As a result, Letterman began mocking Higgins whenever he could, usually during the beginning of his talk show. At one point, Letterman cruelly referred to Higgins as a "psychotic chimp" and called the movie, "the biggest waste of film since his wedding photos."

In fact, it seems Letterman is one for holding grudges, and in 2009 Higgins claimed that Letterman still despised him for his portrayal and even bumped him from his show after he was booked to come on and discuss the movie face to face.
