Hunter S. Thompson has a reputation for being one of the coolest and most interesting writers in the world. If it was not his infamous style of Gonzo writing wowing critics across the world it was his chronic drug-taking that got people talking.

It seemed obvious that the acclaimed Thompson novel... or what he called "that Vegas book" would be eventually adapted into a full-length feature film called "Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas". Plus, with Terry Gilliam to direct and Johnny Depp to star as the controversial writer, what could wrong? Many things according to Hunter S. Thompson.

For Thompson, it was the cast that really ground his gears. Although he liked Depp (the two went on to become life long friends) it was Tobey Maguire that took the biggest hit. In fact, during the audio commentary for the movie, Thompson can be heard shouting, "That kid is a stupid...wax doll of some kind, he's a freak, a perfect representation of the breed."

Sadly, Thompson later committed suicide in 2005 and the world was a much quieter place.
