11 Scariest Final Shots In Thriller Movie History

10. Pi

Darren Aronofsky has made some pretty twisted movies in his time, and his first effort is no exception. The incredibly strange black-and-white thriller, Pi, is about a man obsessed with a mathematical equation that can solve nature's greatest mysteries (aka: a dork).

Naturally, this sends him a bit loopy (it should be noted he was already somewhat unhinged), and the final scene sees him, in an attempt to rid himself of the knowledge he desires, putting an electric drill to his head and giving himself a lobotomy.

That alone, with the roughness of the film stock itself (the budget was in the tens of thousands), makes it a superbly uneasy and gory scene to watch, but it's what comes after that's particularly harrowing.

Newly lobotomised, he sits on a park bench and is asked to answer a maths sum by a child. With a creepy smile, he replies that he doesn't know, looking aimlessly on at a tree above as the movie fades out.
