11 Songs That Were Far Better Than The Movies They Were Made For
1. Just Like Fire - Alice Through The Looking Glass
In our very divisive modern world, the one female artist you won’t ever hear a bad word spoken about is Pink. Her ability to be forthright yet not become involved in the ongoing culture wars, while always being nothing but herself, has meant that she has become a treasure worldwide.
As part of the soundtrack for the 2015 film Alice Through the Looking Glass, the track could not have been a better promotional tool for the film, with a flamboyant music video to match the catchy tune. The music video, featuring Pink in the role of multiple ‘Wonderland’ personas and the appearance of her adorable daughter and husband, was both cute and humorous in equal measure.
While the great visual effects were used to perfection to compliment a clever idea in the music video, the same could not be said for the use of special effects in the movie itself. While Tim Burton’s original interpretation was far from perfect, the sequel lacks any great flair while not addressing the issues with narrative and style critiqued in Burton’s attempt.
If anything, the original issues in the sequel is amplified. Johnny Depp’s performance was even more manic than the original and Hathaway’s Queen was let down by too much backstory that unnecessarily demystified her character. And unlike the enjoyable visuals for Just Like Fire, the visual design for Alice Through The Looking Glass was just scary.
Unlike the first film’s incredible $1Billion plus box office returns, the sequel was a box office and commercial bust which, unlike Pink, just looked tired, lifeless and bereft of good ideas.
