11 Songs That Were Far Better Than The Movies They Were Made For

2. Teenage Dirtbag - Loser

The hit song by American band Wheatus is an interesting entry on this list due to its paradoxical nature as a promotional tool.

While Teenage Dirtbag, the cheesy pop anthem from the film’s soundtrack that was a number 1 hit around the globe, succeeded in building up significant hype for the film, it also managed to have a negative impact on the marketing for the film post release. Confused? Well, that was the emotion audiences felt after watching a movie with a narrative that was nothing like what they were expecting. The confusion stemmed from the songs music video which contained an entertaining narrative featuring the two lead actors of the film, Jason Biggs and Mena Suvari, which many mistook for the film’s plot.

This is where the problems started, with audiences who turned up to see the film upset that ‘the boy meets girl at a Grad Ball and finds out she loves Iron Maiden too’ storyline was nowhere to be seen. Fans who paid to see the film were left fuming, with subsequent bad word of mouth severely impacting the film’s takings.

Making matters worse, the music video had a much more enjoyable storyline and greater development of characters than the movie itself. While it is hard to determine if the music video was overall a positive or negative advertising tool, it is fair to say that the film was a complete and utter bore. Biggs and Suvari’s characters proved quite grating with none of the chemistry from the music video on display.
