5. Benedict Cumberbatch
It can surely only be a matter of time before either Marvel or DC make a move to bring the plum-voiced Englishman on board, with conventional thinking probably putting him on the darker side of the good/evil divide. If Marvel can steal a march on their great rivals and offer Cumberbatch a juicier leading role with the potential for future sequels and cross-over appearances, they will get an accomplished, popular actor for their cosmic flag-bearer. Cumberbatch doesn't really have the look that Marvel are likely to be looking for, but it is infinitely more valuable to consider acting merit over looks considering Cumberbatch's take on Khan in Star Trek Into Darkness and Heath Ledger's Joker. After all, strong performance can overcome a lot more than aesthetic limitations. Like others on this list, Cumberbatch has classical chops, the ego and the sense of wonder needed and of course his would be the kind of casting that would come with a tide of comic con good feeling.
