4. Viggo Mortensen
Like Mikkelsen, Mortensen has both the classical demeanour and the almost ethereal appeal that makes him a strong choice to play the Sorceror. His performances are supremely intelligent, and you get the feeling that only Daniel Day Lewis can really outstrip him for ferocious commitment to the method. More than anything, Mortensen would bring the kind of legitimacy to the movie that Feige knows he needs: he might say he doesn't necessarily need a star, but the statements concerning the importance of the property to the future of the MCU give away something else about how important the decision is. Unfortunately, Mortensen might take some convincing, considering his much publicised opinion of the Lord Of The Rings, and you have to suspect he would beed some sort of creative influence on the character.
