6. Mads Mikkelsen

Fresh from offering another excellent villain performance in Hannibal, Mikkelsen might be seen for some as too much of a typecast villain to really sell Doctor Strange, but he is a talented enough actor to handle those issues. What Mikkelsen would really bring would be that intangible exotic essence that makes him perfect for villain roles: he is frosty and aloof, and most of his most successful performances have been as egotistical outsiders (aside from The Hunt, which worked for precisely the opposite reason). And Marvel already know what his virtues are, having all but cast him as Malekith in Thor: The Dark World before he dropped out. And it would be a lot more intriguing for Marvel to make Mikkelsen their next lead rather than do as expected and cast him as a villain, which would finally give Kevin Feige the one thing he hasn't had before an against type casting decision to rival DC's success with Heath Ledger.
