Lex Luthor - as played by Jesse Eisenberg - looks set to become the ongoing antagonist in the DC Cinematic Universe, in much the same way that Thanos has been in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (granted, he's going to be a lot less powerful and a lot less "behind the scenes" than Thanos, but you get the point). Because of this, the character must be portrayed correctly and in a manner that makes him popular amongst fans - otherwise the long-term plans to include him in future movies will be ruined.
